C4J’s Eleventh Meeting of the Legal Liaison Program

C4J’s eleventh Legal Liaison Program meeting took place on June 25, 2015 at the Minneapolis offices of Fredrikson & Byron. The LLP meeting featured presentations by representatives of the Sexual Violence Center and Cancer Legal Line, along with an hour of “speed networking.” Those interested in attending future meetings are asked to please send an electronic RSVP to Emily Lindholm at emily.lindholm@callforjustice.org. “A Night with Davina and The Vagabonds: Call for Justice’s Second Annual Fundraiser”

Call for Justice invited our supporters to join us for our second annual fundraiser at the Illusion Theater on June 4, 2015, featuring a performance by Davina and The Vagabonds! The event was held at Illusion Theater in downtown Minneapolis, and all event proceeds will support Call for Justice, LLC, which works to connect low-income people with civil legal resources, thus protecting them from homelessness, joblessness, and other risks to stability.

Otto Bremer Foundation Grants C4J $40,000!

Call for Justice, LLC is thrilled to announce that it has been awarded a $40,000 grant from the Otto Bremer Foundation. This generous donation will go toward FY 2015-16 operations and program costs.

“We are incredibly thankful and humbled by the support and faith in Call for Justice,” said C4J’s Executive Director, Ellie Krug. “The Otto Bremer Foundation does an amazing job of supporting community-building nonprofits in Minnesota.”

Since its inception in 1944, the Otto Bremer Foundation has “assisted people in achieving full economic, civic and social participation in and for the betterment of their communities.” The foundation is committed to furthering the success of seven geographical regions across the Midwest that contain Bremer Banks.

Foley & Mansfield Join C4J’s Fundraiser Sponsorship Team

Call for Justice, LLC is thrilled to announce that Foley & Mansfield PLLP has become an “Advocate” level sponsor for our upcoming second annual fundraiser!

Alexandria’s First Legal Liaison Program

In February we trained on state-wide legal resources in Rochester in collaboration with Legal Assistance of Olmsted County and State Support for the Legal Services Coalition. On April 23, we headed to Alexandria and collaborated with Legal Services of Northwest Minnesota to hold a three-hour informational meeting (including a half hour of professional speed networking).

C4J Wins Louis M. Brown Award for Legal Access

Call for Justice is thrilled to announce that we have been chosen to receive the 2015 Louis M. Brown Award for Legal Access. C4J was chosen from 30 organizations across the country—apparently the highest number of organizations to vie for the award. A Week to be Thankful For!

We’re delighted to announce that—within the last week—Call for Justice has received four extremely  generous gifts from the Minnesota State Bar Foundation (the foundation arm of the Minnesota State Bar Association), Bassford Remele, A Professional Association, Best & Flanagan LLP, and Henson & Efron, P.A.

This is C4J’s first grant from the Minnesota State Bar Foundation, whose mission emphasizes the importance of projects that offer legal assistance to disadvantaged communities in the Twin Cities. Bassford Remele, Best & Flanagan LLP, and Henson & Efron are renewing their support in various ways after completing their initial multi-year pledges made in 2011.

We are sincerely appreciative of this enormous show of support. As the year comes to a close, we look forward to putting these donors’ generous gifts to good use in 2015 as we embark on new and existing access to justice initiatives in our fourth year!

C4J Takes the Legal Liaison Program to Owatonna

C4J hosted our first-ever Legal Liaison Program in southern Minnesota on December 4, 2014. This pilot LLP meeting brought together legal and social service providers from Owatonna, Rochester, Mankato and the surrounding counties to heighten awareness of local resources and also to highlight some Twin Cities initiatives that offer legal help regardless of location. This event took place at the Steele County History Museum, and included presentations from the Volunteer Lawyers Network, the Immigrant Law Center of Minnesota, and Southern Minnesota Regional Legal Services. The group also took part in 30 minutes of networking.

C4J’s Second-Annual Civil Legal Resources Seminar Brings in Nearly 90 Attendees

C4J’s second-annual “I Didn’t Know That!” civil legal resources seminar took place from 9AM-Noon at Minnesota Continuing Legal Education with great success! Nearly 90 individuals representing 51 different organizations attended for a morning of panel presentations on new and exciting civil legal resources in the Twin Cities. Meeting of the 9th Legal Liaison Program

The ninth Legal Liaison Program meeting took place on October 29, 2014 at the Greater Twin Cities United Way building (404 South 8th Street) in Minneapolis. Presenters included Emily Baxter (WeAreAllCriminals.org) and Elise Chambers (Conflict Resolution Center) in addition to an hour of professional speed networking. It was open to legal providers, social services organizations and all other interested organizations looking for opportunities to learn about unique social and legal initiatives that exist in the Twin Cities, and those seeking potential future collaborations.
